Not just for skaters - it's a great basic shirt for male ballroom & latin dancers too! Perhaps it's just boys but I do seem to have to make fitting alterations for a smoother fit every time but it's not difficult to do. I also find using even a lightweight stretch interfacing in the collar really helps the appearance - if it's not enough body, just double it.
Amazed how easy the collar it. Do not fear this style , instructions clear and each piece fits together beautifully.
Still feel the sleeves are long on the adult sizes. Nearly made a mistake on the facing folding it too much on the solid centre front line. But I knew it didn’t look right and looked at the pattern piece again and noticed the markers . Crisis avoided. Instructions will have you sew down the front facings to desired level. Not easy when I don’t have the skater in front of me so I winged it. Stitching over topstitching was easier than anticipated.
Love this pattern have another two to make for the same skater.
I have made this multiple times for my son’s skating costumes - both the collared &button version and the t shirt version. Super comfy, moves well on the ice and makes him look so tall and slim out on the ice. I wish the sleeves had thumb holes/finger loops - but this was easy to add. Otherwise a winner I will keep remaking! (Kid keeps growing!!!)
I have made 8 of these with long straight sleeves, t shirt band neckline; 4 with colour blocking , 4 with contrasting neck band and cuffs. For all I omitted the seam between briefs and body. The sizes I used were S, Z, AA and AA+ as one of my skaters needed extra width on the stomach area.
I found the larger sizes also assumed wearer would also be long in the arm. I reduced the sleeve length on all. The pattern went together easily and quickly. I had no issue with size of neck opening, all were a good fit.
The neck band for view A is inaccurate.
I have used this pattern three times, and regardless of stretch fabric, this neck band size never fits over their head. I need to add 1 1/2’’ on the fold (3’’ total) in kids size L for a 20’’ head circumference.
Mostly, I use patterns as a basis for sizing and develop my own patterns, but the size on the neck band is way off.
