How to assemble your print-at-home pattern

Your pattern is printed—now it’s time to put the pages together! You’ll need tape or glue, scissors if you prefer to trim the margins, and a flat surface.

1. Check the printed scale

Before assembling, measure the rectangle inside the page borders—the “pattern tile”—as shown in the diagram below. Compare your measurements with those indicated to make sure your pattern printed at the correct scale.

If the measurements don’t match, check your print settings and print a test page at 100% or Actual Size before continuing.

 

2. Put the pages in order

Keep your pages in numerical order. Each page number corresponds to its position in the assembly layout included at the beginning of your file. Keep this layout nearby as you work.

 

3. Fold or trim the margins

On each page, fold back or cut off the top and left margins, following the border lines. Leave the bottom and right margins in place so you can overlap and attach the neighbouring pages.

4. Assemble one row at a time

Follow the assembly layout (first page of your PDF) to join the pages in each row. Match the borders and corner marks, and check that the pattern lines continue smoothly from one page to the next. Tape or glue the pages together, keeping them flat.

Once your rows are complete, join them the same way to create your full pattern sheet.

5. Trace or cut your pattern pieces

You can keep the assembled sheet intact and trace the sizes you need, or cut out your pattern pieces directly. Choose whichever works best for you.

Keeping the sheet intact lets you return to the other printed sizes later. Cutting out the pieces makes them easier to handle and store.

 

Prefer to skip the assembly? Choose the large-format (Copy Shop / A0) file included with your pattern and have a print shop print it on large sheets for you.
