This was the exact style shorts my husband wanted, it’s the first non-knit Jalie pattern I’ve made. The pattern goes together nicely, but the fly front is very shallow and doesn’t lay well with a metal jeans style zipper. When I make it again I will redraft for a more adult style fly front.
I purchased the men’s & boys pants and shorts pattern 2104 so I could sew something special for my Grandson. I made the cargo pants in a sturdy cotton duck in dark green . They came together beautifully, looking like something expensive from a store. They were not difficult at all to sew. As usual, Jalie patterns have excellent instructions and illustrations, so no frustrations from constructing the various pockets to creating the fly zipper. What I also like about this pattern is that I can use a different type of fabric, leave off the lower leg pockets and have a nice pair of dressier slacks. With all the sizes, I can make him many pairs in the feature as he grows.
I have made a couple of pairs of shorts so far, and they are my husband’s favourite shorts. There are quite a few steps in this pattern, but the instructions are clear. I am going to try the pants next.
This pattern is one of my favorites. I have already made several pairs of pants using this pattern. The instructions are easy to follow and the pants fit perfectly. I only had to do some minor alterations to the pattern (elongating the legs).
